ADVENT

The Missa Emmanuel by Richard Proulx puts the texts of the Mass to the fifteenth-century chant tune “Bone Jesu dulcis cunctis,” more commonly known as “Veni, Veni, Emmanuel” (“O Come, O Come, Emmanuel.”) The tune’s familiarity makes this Mass setting easy to learn and sing. It is preferred for all Masses during Advent for all years (A, B, C) unless otherwise noted in the Notes for a specific liturgy or occasion. Alternatively, the Mass of Angels and Saints, which includes an Advent Penitential Rite, can be used instead, particularly for the Kyrie and Lamb of God:

Gloria Omitted during Advent
Holy, Holy, Holy GIA Missa Emmanual
Memorial Acclamation GIA Year A: Missa Emmanuel, A ("When we eat...")
GIA Year B: Missa Emmanuel, B ("We proclaim your death...")
GIA Year C: Missa Emmanuel, C ("Save us, Savior...")
Amen GIA Missa Emmanuel
Lamb of God GIA Missa Emmanuel

Ideally, the presider should sing the Kyrie invocations, if capable. Memorial Acclamation A (“We proclaim your death…”) should be sung unless otherwise instructed. The Lamb of God litany should always begin with “Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world.” No other texts are approved for the Catholic liturgy.

(These Mass settings, both published by GIA, will need to be purchased for public liturgical use if not contained in the parish hymnal.)
